Learning becomes an adventure

Sokrates Quest is a gamified learning experience for children aged 8 to 13. Learners embark on exciting adventures, develop real competences and social skills, and connect online challenges with off-screen activities and real-world scenarios – alone or in teams.

  • Ages 8–13
  • Competence-based
  • For school & home

Why Sokrates Quest

Serious learning. Seriously motivating.

Game elements are a means, not the goal. And Sokrates Quest is built with teachers in mind as well – so they can focus on what matters most: a positive learning environment.

Competence-based

An adventure usually builds one specific competence, but it can also combine several or span subjects – for example for project-based learning. So it adapts to any curriculum and teaching philosophy.

Stories with real relevance

Adventures are based on real-life use cases, so learners know what they are learning for. And the story gets them emotionally involved: what will happen to their friends – and their rivals?

Relief for teachers

Ready-made adventures with tips for lessons that can be adjusted to every class. Many challenges are evaluated automatically, and the current learning level of the whole class is clear at a glance.

Progress you can see

Direct feedback and rewards keep motivation high. The observatory shows learners where they stand at any time – and their progress in the game reflects what they can really do in real life.

Developed with feedback from universities of teacher education, teachers, parents and pupils.

The journey

How a learning adventure works

From the first page of the story to the mastered competence – every step has a purpose.

1

Start an adventure

Every school topic is an adventure with its own story. Learners always see which subject and which competence they are working on.

2

Make decisions

Choices shape the story and make every journey individual: depending on their decisions, learners get different or additional quests and more or less information – adapted to their needs and interests.

3

Follow the quest map

Quests are the chapters of an adventure – from acquiring knowledge to applying and practising it and validating the competence. The map is not linear: learners pick the challenges that suit them and their way of learning best. Those who love a quest do more, others complete the required minimum.

4

Master challenges

Challenges come in many different types – on screen and in the real world. The vast majority are evaluated automatically, so learners get feedback right away. Only complex ones are validated by the teacher.

5

Earn rewards

Every solved challenge earns XP – shown as stars – and gold, the in-game currency. Learners can use it to customise their avatar with new hairstyles, outfits, animations and pets – and even the themes and background images of the app.

Competence-based learning

From knowing to being able to

Sokrates Quest is built around competences, not just content. Every school topic is an adventure – a subject like maths consists of many of them, from adding numbers up to 20 to probability. Each adventure names the competences learners are working towards, and its quests lead them there step by step.

  • Clear learning goal for every adventure
  • Quests from acquiring knowledge to validating the competence
  • Required and optional challenges for different learning paces
  • Validation instead of a classic test: applying what was learned to a new situation
  • Tasks that take learning beyond the screen

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Sokrates Quest just a game?

No. Sokrates Quest uses game elements to motivate, but every adventure is built around a clear learning goal. Knowledge is acquired, applied, practised and finally validated – with the right balance between game and learning content, so that the game supports learning instead of distracting from it.

For which ages and subjects is Sokrates Quest designed?

Sokrates Quest is initially designed for children aged 8 to 13. Early access focuses on grades 4 to 6 and will gradually be expanded to all grades. In terms of content, it can cover all subjects as well as cross-curricular and subject-independent competences.

Which adventures will be available?

Sokrates Quest is first and foremost a platform and can be adapted to any curriculum. As we are based in Switzerland, we start with the Lehrplan 21 and will create adventures for all its competences – not all at once, but step by step. Pilot schools have a say in which topics come first, and we work together with teachers and experts to build them.

Can teachers create their own adventures?

Yes. Already in early access, teachers and other experts get access to the adventure editor and can create their own adventures and share them with others.

Is Sokrates Quest limited to the curriculum?

No. Adventures can also go beyond the curriculum – like extra-curricular classes – and inspire learners to discover, experiment and try out even more.

How can Sokrates Quest be used in class?

Very flexibly: together in class, as self-study units, as homework or for remote learning. Teachers follow the progress of their class. Most challenges are evaluated automatically, only complex ones are validated by the teacher.

Do teachers need technical knowledge?

No. Sokrates Quest is designed to be simple and intuitive. We also offer tutorials and training for teachers, and we are happy to help you get set up.

On which devices does Sokrates Quest run?

Sokrates Quest is being developed for computers and tablets.

When can we try Sokrates Quest?

The demo with the complete adventure “The Magi Crypto” is almost finished. Get in touch and we will let you know as soon as you can try it with your class.
